WHAT TO EXPECT:
There will be instruction, in-class story prompts, homework, critical reading of your work, and feedback on your writing. The idea of exposing yourself (ahem...your writing) may seem uncomfortable. But believe me, when you Shake It Up you will fall in love with your idea and your writing will reach the next level. In the end you'll crave feedback because it gives your story a pinch of just what it needs!
WHAT'S YOUR STORY IDEA?:
Is there a place or time that has always fascinated you? A magical world where you want to spend some creative time? We'll explore what draws you to a story and how to capture and keep the magic while you write.
VOICE & POINT OF VIEW:
Before you get too far into your project you'll want to define and refine your voice. It could be the main character or an interesting narrator, but a captivating voice and a consistent Point of View is what will carry the reader on your journey.
DYNAMIC CHARACTERS & CONFLICT:
Characters come in many shapes and forms but to make them dynamic they have to DO something. Learn the importance of your character's place in a scene, how to make him/her take chances and face demons (both internal and external).
STORY PROBLEM & STORY QUESTION:
The story problem is the reason your characters are in a bind. The story question is what keeps the reader turning the pages. They aren't the same. We will explore this interesting way to plot your narrative.
