CULTIVATING THE WRITING (and READING) HABIT:
Do you have a story to tell? Have you been waiting until you had “time” to write? Whether you have designs on publishing that incredible story idea, or simply want to document the interesting moments of your life, this class will offer strategies to help build a consistent habit to begin to amass your written material.
CRITICISM v FEEDBACK:
How do we know if what we write is “good”? This class will cover how to look at and discuss what we see on the page and offer strategies to foster healthy writing communities.
FINDING YOUR VOICE:
“Finding your voice” may be the most enigmatic problems facing any writer. This class will provide exercises to experiment with “voice” and ways to identify your unique voiceprint on the page.
WRITING WITH ENGAGING LANGUAGE:
What are ways we can access levels of creative language to make what we have to say something someone else will care to read, and maybe even remember? This class will use writing exercises to practice generating effective and surprising metaphors that can vivify our writing.
SURPRISE YOURSELF WITH PLAYFUL PROMPTS (Crossing Genres):
Are you certain you could never write poetry? Maybe you’ve always envisioned writing a memoir, and yet, this mystery story still haunts you. The urge to write can produce art in many forms. This class will allow cross-over into genres you may never have considered.
CREATIVITY TECHNIQUES (Antidotes to Writer’s Block):
Any good habit is vulnerable to falling away when the habit itself becomes boring and predictable, or when it feels like the creative well has gone dry. This class will provide tips to get back to writing when writers get stuck.
